UPDATE EXTENDED – augmented festival programme

UPDATE EXTENDED is a new media art masterclass and discussion programme that will take place from December 7th until December 14th online (ZOOM platform). UPDATE is intended for students, young artists, professionals and other interested people who want to acquire new knowledge and competencies in working with digital technologies. The festival program is also intended for those without prior knowledge, and all events are available free of charge. Working language: English.

 

From December 6th to 7th creative programmer Patrick Borgeat (DE) will lead a workshop on “Introduction to Augmented Reality (AR) Creation” in Liepāja Art Research Laboratory MPLab.

 

Tuesday, Dec. 7th, from 18:00 to 20:00 EET one will be able to attend the master class of the renowned immersive media artist Franz Fischnaller (IT) “Augmented Storytelling” on augmented reality (AR) narratives, its basic principles and biggest challenges. The artist will reveal the creative production process behind the scenes of his latest projects: large-scale immersive museum and art installations in Western Europe.

 

Thursday, Dec. 9th 18:00 to 20:00 EET discussion "Inclusive Art and Design – Digital Perspective" will take place online, joining researchers and artists who have created inclusive works of art and products for people with different physical and mental abilities, discussing the opportunities and challenges that digital technology creates in the context of promoting access to art and the environment. The experiences of inclusive practices and access to the environment in different countries will be compared ­– not only for consumers but also for creators. Participants: composer Amble Skuse (UK), researcher, experiential design enthusiast and VReach team member Kristiāna Kārkliņa (LV), artist, art mediator and art accessibility project manager Lība Bērziņa (LV), and Gabrielė Gervickaitė, (LT).

 

Tuesday, Dec. 14th 18:00 to 20:00 EET Art Research Laboratory organizes a discussion “Art as Research: Opportunities and Challenges”, in which researchers-researchers Dani Ploeger (NL) and Vytautas Michelkevičius (LT) will introduce the audience to the role of research in their art and the variety of art as research approaches. Under the guidance of the workshop moderator – media theorist Ilva Skulte (LV) – the methodology and lifestyle of the artist-researcher will be introduced.
