Cooperation agreement among Liepaja University (rector Oskars Zids) and Liepaja city council (chairman Uldis Sesks) has been signed on 16th of April. This agreement anticipates that Liepaja city council will provide co-financing for the project “Establishment and development of New media art education in Liepaja” financed by Europe Economic Area and Norwegian bilateral Financial mechanism. Within the project Liepaja city council co-finances 4.9% of the total project costs, namely 26 344 LVL.
Rector of Liepaja University - Oskars Zids admits that this kind of cooperation, where the city council co-finances essential projects, should be developed. As Oskars Zids points out: “In our strategies we have acknowledged that one of the ways to ensure the future development of Liepaja University in current conditions, when the financing from the State is decreasing, is to work on attracting resources of various financial mechanisms. It is great that Liepaja city council supports such iniatives and approves our activities and investments for the city by allocating funding”.
“Liepaja city has always foreseen it's development both in the manufacturing and industrial potential, as well as it has always been proud of and has been noticed with its creative and original artistic ideas. Both of these areas are equally valuable for the city,” notes the chairman of Liepaja city council. “Currently we are looking for new ways of seeing these processes as well as new experience. Therefore I'd say that support to new media art education study programme is a long-term investment to promote the export of creative services and products of Liepaja city.”
